A tragic incident unfolded on the night of Friday, September 23, 2024 outside a beachfront extended-stay hotel in Boca Raton, Florida, resulting in the deaths of Christopher Liszak, 49, and Chandler Dill, 32, both from Oakland Park. The altercation began with an argument between Dill and the alleged shooter, De'Vante Moss, a Boynton Beach resident.

According to information available, Dill had rented a room at the hotel and was there with Moss before the fatal confrontation. The situation escalated in the parking lot. As others attempted to intervene, including Liszak, Moss reportedly retrieved a weapon from his vehicle and opened fire, killing both Dill and Liszak at close range.

A third man, described as a witness, was also shot but survived. Moss was apprehended in Laurens County, Georgia, less than 24 hours after the incident.

What Security Issues Can Lead to Negligent Security Claims at Hotels?

Several factors can contribute to a negligent security claim at a hotel:

  • Inadequate lighting in common areas and parking lots 💡
  • Lack of functioning security cameras 📹
  • Insufficient or untrained security personnel 💂

  • Failure to conduct background checks on employees 📋

The question in these types of cases is whether the property had appropriate security measures in place to prevent or respond to foreseeable violent incidents.
